There’s undoubtedly more to the Gold Coast than just its beaches. Some call its hinterlands the green behind the gold. Now you can explore the natural beauty hidden in the peaks of the Gold Coast’s hinterland from the vantage point of a helicopter. You will fly over 150 kilometres of natural beauty in the hinterlands that straddle Queensland and New South Wales, including UNESCO World Heritage-listed parks like Springbrook National Park.
Your helicopter will take off at the Gold Coast airport. Now you’re in the skies, see the canopies of lush rainforests rush beneath you and the spectacular plateaus that rise above the landscape. Follow the ridgeline of the plateaus before you encounter the majesty of the 3793-feet tall Mount Warning.
The caldera you see here was carved out of the rock by 20 million years of wind and rain, forming a bowl perfect for plants and animals to flourish in. Swoop past dramatic waterfalls, mountains, and valleys in your helicopter.
Descending at Murwillumbah to 500 feet, track the meandering Tweed River as it winds its way to Point Danger, where Captain Cook was said to have steered his ship away to avoid the reefs. Your helicopter then banks north to head up the coast. At the world-famous Snapper Rocks, home of the Quiksilver Pro surfing competition, see how the surfers ride the gigantic waves rolling in from the Pacific Ocean. Zoom past Kirra Beach and up to Bilinga, before your pilot banks the aircraft left and returns to Coolangatta.
For the nature enthusiast, it’s an exhilarating ride giving a bird’s eye view of the stunning natural beauty of the Gold Coast’s green hinterland.
