Imagine taking to the skies in a fully restored vintage Tiger Moth. A biplane where the propeller is started manually and the cockpit is open to the wind.
The Tiger Moth design dates back to the heyday of the 1930s. And this flight makes you feel you are right back there training as a pilot did in those days.
After a safety briefing and introduction to the Tiger Moth, you begin your adventure by suiting up in the old style goggles and Biggles-style flying jacket.
With the prop spinning, your pilot signals for the chocks to be removed. With a surprisingly short run up the runway, the Tiger Moth lifts off and your 30-minute aerobatic flight begins.
The nerves now hinting at some second thoughts, your pilot puts the plane through its paces. Barrel rolls, loop the loops, stall turns and spins – the nerves give way, the adrenalin kicks in. This is an amazing flying experience. Up, down and round and round.
You now know what it takes to be a flying ace. Oh. And the scenery of the Redcliffe coast, that’s there too!
You will be in the air for approximately 30 minutes.
This experience is available on weekends only all year round subject to prevailing weather conditions.
Valid for one person. There will be just you and your pilot in the Tiger Moth.
Spectators are welcome to visit and see you off and wave you in on your return. Bring a camera and if you have them a pair of binoculars.
Minimum age is 6. Max weight 130 kg. If you fit into a standard car seat you should be comfortable in the cockpit. Unsuitable for pregnant women or anyone unable to climb into the open cockpit. If you have a medical condition please check with your doctor first.
Military aircraft are built and tested to different standards than that put forward by CASA or any equivalent international civil aviation governing body. As such, in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Regulation Parts 132.140, 132.150 and 132.155;
- The design, manufacture and airworthiness of the aircraft are not required to meet any standard recognised by CASA; and
- CASA does not require the aircraft to be operated to the same degree of safety as an aircraft used for regular public transport or charter operations; and
- The passenger agrees to participate in this flight at his or her own risk; and
- If it is reasonable to believe that a passenger cannot understand the safety briefing; said passenger must be accompanied on the flight by a parent, guardian, or carer; and
- A detailed briefing will be provided to the passenger before they board the aircraft. This will include signing a liability waiver and acknowledgment of the briefing. If the passenger is under 18 years of age the waiver and acknowledgment must be signed by a parent, or legal guardian.
